Osun LG Crisis:APC Alleges Plot By Adeleke To Procure Judgment Against Appeal Court Ruling

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of plotting to subvert a subsisting Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated APC-elected local government chairmen and councillors.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday at the Ileri-Oluwa Campaign Office in Osogbo, former Osun State Commissioner for Information, Oluomo Sunday Akere, alleged that the Adeleke-led government has perfected plans to procure a “kangaroo” judgment from a state High Court sitting in Ikirun on April 17, 2025.

According to Akere, the anticipated ruling would be used to oust the APC chairmen and councillors from office in defiance of the appellate court’s ruling of February 10, 2025.

Akere claimed that the judgment, to be delivered by Justice I.O. Adeleke, is a purchased order of mandamus filed against the governor, which the PDP administration allegedly plans to exploit in reinstating what he described as “illegally selected” local government officials following a controversial OSSIEC election held on February 22, 2025.

“The planned order of mandamus, procured from a pliable judge, will serve as a trigger for coordinated attacks on our reinstated chairmen and councillors,” Akere said, warning that the judgment would be used as a cover to deploy armed thugs in Amotekun Corps uniforms to violently take over local government secretariats.

He also revealed that the APC has credible intelligence indicating that council workers, who have abandoned their posts for over two months allegedly due to state-backed intimidation, are being mobilized to resume duties in collaboration with the PDP-backed council officials following the April 17 judgment.

Describing the situation as a “judicial coup”, Akere said the alleged plot is a continuation of the Adeleke administration’s disregard for the rule of law and the judiciary. He accused the state of engaging in “forum shopping” and procuring “black market judgments” to undermine the authority of the Court of Appeal.

“The judiciary is the last hope of the common man. If it is allowed to be continuously abused by the Adeleke-led government, our democracy is in grave danger,” Akere warned.

He also called on the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Security Adviser to intervene before the state descends into lawlessness.

In addition to the alleged judicial manipulation, the APC accused the state government of sponsoring violence, intimidating opposition members, and vandalizing primary healthcare projects commissioned by the previous administration.

As tensions continue to rise over local government administration in Osun State, the APC insists that the only lawful path for the state government is to appeal the Court of Appeal’s judgment at the Supreme Court, rather than resorting to “constitutional subversion.”
