Group of protesters against bad governance in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, gathered under the Olaiya bridge on Friday afternoon to observe their Jumaat prayer.
The ten-day #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest entered day two as residents of the state turned out to draw attention to their grievances.
The Jumaat prayer was observed around 1:15 pm, led by Akin Asifa, popularly known as Government. Other protesters who were not observing the solat gathered around them in a circle.
Security operatives, consisting of men from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Security Service (DSS), and others, were seen gathered around the metropolis to ensure the safety of the protesters.
The protesters have maintained a peaceful demonstration, emphasizing that their intent is to call for an end to bad governance through nonviolent means.
Speaking with Worldgist media, Mrs. Lateef Kadijat said she joined the protest to call on the government to address challenges confronting the nation.
The sexagenarian said that citizens of the country are hungry, urging the government to put an end to bad governance in the country.
“I joined this protest because it’s worthy to join to tell the government to put an end to bad governance.
“I plead with Nigeria’s leadership to do well, to reduce food prices; this suffering is too much. Many people have died.
“Many people cannot afford to buy food; people are hungry and dying of hunger. Rice meant for distribution is kept and sold instead of being shared.
